Introduction
KM Institute - Switzerland is the official offerer of KM Institute-branded Knowledge Management (KM) Training and Certification programs for this region. We are a global network of over 30 KM professionals, trainers, and content providers - all respected experts in their fields.
KM Institute supports the official CKM Alumni Association (Nearly 1,000 CKM
program graduates from around the world).
We communicate and collaborate with a growing membership and subscriber audience of 3,000 KM Professionals, partner in activities with KM Solutions/Service Providers from dozens of countries, and sponsor the International KM Certification Authority (IKMCA), the only truly global body for the promotion of KM Training/Certification best practices.
Our Faculty and volunteer staff includes top KM experts in dozens of countries, as well as some of the most well-known KM luminaries.
In addition, KM Institute is home to the official KM Body of Knowledge
The KM Institute - Switzerland operates on a more modern fee-for-service model, rather than a traditional membership fee model. The basis for this popular model was based on member preferences to pay only for what they wanted, as opposed to a fee for overhead and services they may not need. A Quarterly Newsletter “Connect & Collect” and a semi-annual Journal are free to members as are many other services supported by corporate and individual sponsors.
The KM Institute - Switzerland provides the infrastructure support for voluntary, non-profit communities such as the official CKM Alumni Association™ and all international KM Institute chapters.
We invite you to peruse the KM Institute site, or any of our satellite KM Institute country sites - and discover for yourself the many opportunities available to address your knowledge management learning, technology and service provider needs.

Mission
The KM Institute is dedicated to researching, defining, publishing and sharing KM knowledge in variously blended formats truly suited to learner needs. It provides what expert KM practitioners need to know for successful application of enterprise KM and what all KM Professionals need to know for career success applying Personal KM in the Knowledge Age.
The KM Institute believes these are the unmet learning needs of global KM practitioners who aspire to be KM specialists and leaders, and individual knowledge workers who seek performance improvement through application of personal KM.
To satisfy its mission, the KM Institute is developing the non-instructional content of the KM Body of Knowledge and to leveraging that knowledge and emerging KM learning objectives, to develop and deliver KM Learning and Certification Programs for all levels of KM competence.
With a world-wide coalition of top-flight educators, trainers, and subject matter experts, the community of expert practitioners, and proven KM solution providers - KM Institute continues to build upon an already proven world-class knowledge management learning program.

Unparalleled Roots in KM Education/Learning
The KM Institute has deep roots in KM learning. KM Institute Chairman Douglas Weidner was one of only two pioneers of the original KM Certification Program,
first taught in May 1999.
This early version of the CKM was based on KM training he was doing for clients as Chief Knowledge Engineer for $30B Northrop Grumman since 1995. In 2000 - 2001, that content was substantially changed by Weidner to meet/exceed the US Government specified Learning Objectives, published in 2000.
Weidner was one of a select group of KM consultants and government KM leaders chosen to be involved in that groundbreaking KM research. The research was led by Alex Bennet, former CKO of US Navy and Robert Neilson, CKO of the National Defense University for the CIO Council's KM Working Group. The results were published in the Handbook on KM - 2003, and elsewhere.
Alex Bennet and other US Government KM leaders personally reviewed and made valuable suggestions on the initial CKM design, which was unique in its competency-based approach. The competency-based approach has since expanded into the dual CKM and Master CKM™ Programs.
The present content has been greatly enriched since the revised program was first delivered in June 2001. While still anchored in those original Learning Objectives, it is now based as well on the practitioner input of literally hundreds of Certified Knowledge Managers worldwide, certified since June 2001. Future enhancements will be based on both international practitioner input and the emerging requirements being defined by the International KM Certification Authority (IKMCA). By mid-2008, the IKMCA will have 100 worldwide members representing KM leaders in literally every country where KM is emerging.
Our tuition-based Learning Center has developed the most extensive KM curricula in the world, including business training for non-KM professionals who must perform in the Knowledge Age and KM certification programs for KM practitioners. The certification program content continues to be updated by the IKMCA, the only truly truly global advisory body for the promotion of KM Training/Certification. The IKMCA continues to define KM roles, skills, competencies, learning objectives, and delivery standards for all KM certification programs.
