1. What is the International Knowledge Management Institute (KM Institute™) and KM Institute - Switzerland?
The International Knowledge Management Institute (KM Institute™) is a professional trade association focused on building the KM Body of Knowledge to promote the success of KM, its practitioners and solution providers.
The KM Institute:
- leverages the KM Body of Knowledge content
- creates instructional content and trains KM professionals.
- partners with KM product and solution providers to form a complete KM learning infrastructure with both instructional and non-instructional content.
- developed the KM Body of Knowledge to promote the understanding of KM and success of practitioners, and a full KM curriculum including the global standard for certification to ensure KM success.
Blended learning programs include: workshops and e-Learning - the eCKM. KM Institute, the first in KM Certification, is now the first in interactive, video-enhanced KM Certification. Study at your own computer, at your own pace, without all the hassles of traveling and missed work. As with the acclaimed CKM, you can be assured the highest levels of instructional design/quality.
Institutes already exist in many other countries with global expansion accelerating.
For chapters, the KM Institute takes a revolutionary approach; chapters are locally operated and controlled. Chapters exist at the city level, leveraging the infrastructure freely provided by the KM Institute HQ. Any fees are discretionary, determined and controlled solely by local leadership, as it should be.
This was the business model the CKM Alumni Association™ wanted. This will become the business model for professional societies in the Knowledge Age:

- - no membership dues, but a fee-for-services actually provided

The International Knowledge Management Institute (KM Institute™) is a professional trade association. Its direction is taken from various Advisory Groups:
- the CKM Alumni Association™
- representatives of the active KM Institutes, which operate autonomously
- the International KM Certification Authority with a focus on the diversity of Certification programs
- and local chapters, which also operate autonomously.
The country Institutes each have their own authorized Certification Instructors and sales/marketing staff, and are the only organizations licensed and officially authorized to distribute and conduct international CKM Certification training programs.
The KM Institute's US-based headquarters is guided by the KM Institute Chairman Douglas Weidner. Marketing, PR, and administrative work is done by a number of paid employees and volunteers.
The KM Institute is now the fastest growing Knowledge Management association in the world, and is the only full-service, free world-wide resource for KM professionals and practitioners.
We are an inclusive organization; as part of that inclusive spirit, we do not claim that our training programs are untouchable or above scrutiny. We simply offer these programs based on the most heavily researched work done to date, delivered in energetic, dynamic workshop-style training programs and e-content.
3. Who are your instructors and what qualifications do they have?
Dr. Barry Hardy, CKM
Dr. Hardy obtained his Ph.D. in 1990 from Syracuse University initially working in the area of computational chemistry, biophysics and computer-aided molecular modelling and design. Dr. Hardy has been working in the area of Web-supported communities and conferencing environments since 1994. He has organised over 50 international virtual communications projects in areas of the chemical, life and medical sciences. |

He has also developed technology solutions for internet-based conferencing, tutor-supported e-learning, laboratory automation systems and computational chemistry and informatics.Dr. Hardy is managing the development of training and professional support activities for the KM Institute - Switzerland. He was a National Research Fellow at the FDA Center for Biologics and Evaluation, a Hitchings-Elion Fellow at Oxford University and the CEO of Virtual Environments International. He recently chaired the EU-supported Eurotron Virtual Conferences in Glycobiology, and currently runs the InnovationWell Knowledge Management Community in Pharma & Life Sciences, including chairing the KM in Drug Safety Conference in Philadelphia in April, 2005. Dr. Hardy lives in Switzerland where he works with Douglas Connect in the provision of virtual conferencing, community and knowledge management solutions for the life science, pharma and healthcare sectors. He also works closely with Colayer, a Swiss company dedicated to the development of knowledge-sharing collaborative software and social software.
His current interests include collaborative co-working environments, blended programs for professional support and practice development, cross-organisational knowledge transfer and semantic support environments. He also maintains key interests in drug discovery informatics, chemical design and nanotechnology. He received his CKM designation in June, 2005.
